PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (By Piero Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 10.Jul.2025, Words: 232) — The province of Pedernales has been connected to the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI) for the first time in its history. This marks a turning point in the development of this border district in the Dominican Republic (DR).
Until now, 100% of the province’s electricity supply was covered by local generation systems, which suffered high operating costs and low efficiency, representing a major barrier to attracting investment, developing tourism, and improving the quality of life for its residents. With its integration into the SENI, Pedernales will have a continuous, reliable, and less polluting source of energy, which will strengthen the national sustainable development strategy, especially in border areas.
