Trinidad’s Minister Young Meets with Diplomatic Missions

(MEEI, 8.Jul.2024) — The Honourable Stuart R. Young SC, MP, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, along with Ms. Sandra Fraser, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, met separately, with representatives of the diplomatic missions of Brazil and Jamaica respectively, at the at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries’, International Waterfront Complex Head-Office, on 9 July 2024.

At the first meeting, Minister Young met with Her Excellency Maria Elisa Teófilo de Luna, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago where the parties discussed opportunities for collaboration in areas such as biofuel, exploration and production, green energy and the ‘Just-Transition.’

Minister Young also took the opportunity to thank the Embassy of Brazil in Trinidad and Tobago for facilitating dialogue with the Brazilian-based, Petrobras which provided critical insights on managing the Tobago Oil Spill.

At a subsequent meeting, Minister Young met with Her Excellency Natalie Campbell-Rodriques, High Commissioner for Jamaica to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The parties discussed the need to bolster regional energy security and the immediate effects of hurricane Beryl on the Caribbean region. Her Excellency Natalie Campbell-Rodriques commended the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for having an excellent partnership with Jamaica.

At both meetings Minister Young made a call for there to be more intensive collaboration among the countries of Latin America, CARICOM and Africa, as a unified voice would be louder on energy-related global platforms.

All parties agreed to continue working together for the benefit of the region.
