PDVSA reports, controls fire at Cardón refinery

CARACAS, VENEZUELA (By Piero Stewart, Editores Latin Petroleum, 6.Oct.2026, Words: 190) — Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) said a natural gas pipeline supplying the boilers at the Cardón refinery, part of the Paraguaná Refining Center (CRP by its Spanish acronym) in Falcón State, ruptured and caused a fire.

The incident happened at 3:25 pm on 6 Oct. 2026, the Caracas-based company announced in an official statement.

The rupture caused a fire that was quickly brought under control by the refinery’s emergency response and control personnel.

No workers were injured, and there were no third-party damages or other significant losses.

“The established safety protocol for such incidents was activated, resulting in an emergency shutdown of the Cardón refinery plants while conditions for a safe restart are assessed to ensure the safety of personnel and facilities,” PDVSA said.

As established by industrial safety regulations, an investigation committee has been formed to determine the causes of this incident. PDVSA assured the national refining system has sufficient inventories to guarantee fuel delivery to the Venezuelan people.
