BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA (By Steve Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 23.Sep.2026) — Venezuela’s interim president Delcy Rodríguez held a meeting with US president Donald Trump on the side lines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, taking place in New York.
In post 23 Sep. 2026 post on social media, Rodríguez described the meeting as “historic.” She said she discussed with Trump issues around “strengthening the bilateral relationship between our countries and advancing a cooperation agenda in strategic areas such as energy, mining, security, and other matters of common interest.”
Rodríguez also thanked Trump and his administration for the support provided during the emergency caused by the earthquakes of 24 Jun. 2026, “as well as for their support of our country’s reintegration into multilateral forums.”

In this context, she emphasized that both countries share a historical relationship that, in this new phase, “we are called to strengthen through dialogue.”
“We will continue to promote a diplomacy that serves the national interest, aimed at achieving concrete results and collective benefits for the Venezuelan people,” she concluded.
