MONTERREY, MEXICO (By Isaac Silvestre, Editores Latin Petroleum, 21.Sep.2026, Words: 130) — Javier Aguilar, a Mexican citizen residing in Houston, Texas, and a former oil trader, was sentenced in Brooklyn, New York, to 4 years in prison for bribing officials in Ecuador and Mexico.
According to the indictment, Aguilar paid over $1mn in bribes to officials of the Ecuadorian state oil company PETROECUADOR and PEMEX Procurement International (PPI) — a subsidiary of state-owned Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) — in order to obtain and retain business for his then-employer, Vitol Inc., the daily La Jornada reported on 21 Sep. 2026.
Aguilar was also ordered to pay $7.13mn in forfeiture and a $100,000 fine.
