Mexico relied on piped-gas imports to cover 75% of gas demand in 2025, SENER’s Luz Elena says

HOUSTON, TEXAS  (By Pietro D. Pitts, Energy Analytics Institute, 8.Apr.2026, Words: 338) — Mexico’s natural gas imports represented 75% of the country’s total demand in 2025, according to Energy Secretariat (SENER) head Luz Elena González Escobar.

Of total natural gas demand of 9.1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2025, Mexico only produced 2.3 Bcf/d and relied on imports of 6.8 Bcf/d to cover domestic market demand, González said on 8 Apr. 2025 during her participation in a morning presser hosted by Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
