BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA (By Steve Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 19.Aug.2025, Words: 196) — The US military continues to flex its military muscles in the Atlantic region, highlighting recent operations.
This, as US president Donald Trump authorized deployment of 3 missile destroyers to waters off the coast of Venezuela, Venezuela’s president Nicolás Maduro said on 19 Aug. 2025 in a broadcast on national television.
To counter US military moves, Maduro announced the upcoming activation of a special security plan whereby over 4.5 million armed militia members will be prepared to “ensure coverage throughout the entire national territory,” he said.
“With this, the peace, tranquility, and sovereignty of Venezuela are guaranteed,” Maduro added.

The US military deployment to the Caribbean comes after the Department of State and the Department of Justice recently announced a reward offer increase of up to $50mn under the Narcotics Rewards Program (NRP) for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Maduro for violating US narcotics laws.
