HOUSTON, TEXAS (By Isaac Silvestre, Energy Analytics Institute, 15.Aug.2025, Words: 193) — State-owned Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) is preparing to refurbish a “large block” of its 312,500 barrel per day (b/d) Deer Park refinery in Texas.
The project is expected to begin in early Oct. 2025, according to reports by Reuters on 15 Aug. 2025, citing people familiar with the operations.

Other details around the refurbish work include:
— the refinery’s DU-2 crude distillation unit, with a capacity of 270,000 b/d and the larger of the facility’s 2, will be shut down for the work, which is expected to take about 60 days to complete;
— DU-2 breaks down crude oil into feedstocks to feed other units;

— while DU-2 is shut down, the 70,000 b/d fluid catalytic cracking unit, the 70,000 b/d diesel hydrocracking unit, and the 92,000 b/d coker will remain out of service, along with other units, due to a lack of feedstock;
— the DU-1 unit, with a capacity of 70,000 bpd, is expected to remain operational while the DU-2 unit is shut down.
