MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (Fidencio Casillas, Energy Analytics Institute, 4.Jun.2025, Words: 374) — Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said measures imposed by her US counterpart Donald Trump to increase steel and aluminum tariffs to 50% on the entire world were “unfair and unsustainable.”
“In the case of Mexico, first, it is unfair because — as we have said several times — Mexico imports more steel and aluminum than it exports. So, formally a tariff is placed when there is a deficit,” Sheinbaum pointed out on 4 Jun. 2025 during her mañanera or morning conference with the media broadcast on national television.
