SALVADOR, BRAZIL (Pedro Silva, Energy Analytics Institute, 19.May.2025, Words: 163) — Brazil’s oil and gas giant Petrobras reported a R$65.7bn contribution for the Brazilian government in the first-quarter 2025 (1Q:25).

Said amount includes R$42.7bn in taxes due to Petrobras’ own operations, R$16.3bn in government take, and R$6.7bn in taxes withheld from third parties, Petrobras reported on 19 May 2025 in an official presentation.

In the 1Q:25, an amount of R$22.6bn was paid in federal taxes, which, when added to the R$16.3bn in government take, totals R$38.9bn allocated to the federal government. This amount is then distributed to states and municipalities according to current legislation, Petrobras said. This value represents 5.4% of the total federal tax collection.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, there was a 10% decrease in federal tax collection, driven by lower payments of IRPJ, CSLL and PIS/COFINS, Petrobras said.
