PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (Piero Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 14.Apr.2025) — Colombia’s state-owned Ecopetrol and AES Colombia & CIA SCA E.S.P. signed an investment framework agreement to build 49% of the Jemeiwaa Ka’I wind cluster located in La Guajira.
The agreement is subject to the fulfillment of condition precedents and other legal requirements.
Jemeiwaa Ka’I comprises a portfolio of wind projects located in the upper and middle Guajira, in the municipality of Uribia, with a capacity of 1,087 mega watts (MW), along with a 35km transmission line, Ecopetrol announced on 14 Apr. 2025 in an official statement.
Due to its privileged geographical location, La Guajira has great potential for power generation with non-conventional renewable sources. The wind speed in the department is twice the world average and the radiation is 60% higher than that recorded worldwide, according to Colombia’s Mines and Energy Ministry.
