PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (Piero Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 28.Jan.2025) — TotalEnergies SA said the Sapakara and Krabdagu oil discoveries offshore Suriname hold recoverable reserves estimated at nearly 760 million barrels, up from an earlier estimate of over 750 million barrels.

The GranMorgu project in Block 58 will develop the Sapakara and Krabdagu oil discoveries, on which a successful exploration and appraisal campaign was completed in 2023, TotalEnergies said in a new updated on its website.

Houston-based APA Corporation partners with TotalEnergies in GranMorgu, while state-owned Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. plans to participate with an up to 20% interest in the summer of 2025.

Sapakara and Krabdagu are located 150km off the coast of Suriname. GranMorgu includes a 220,000 barrels of oil per day floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, that replicates a proven and efficient design.

The final investment decision (FID) for GranMorgu was $10.5bn. First oil is slated for 2028, according to TotalEnergies and APA.

The GranMorgu FPSO is designed to accommodate future tie-back opportunities that would extend its production plateau.
