(Steve Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 6.Jan.2025) — On 28 Dec. 2024, The Woodlands, Texas-based Excelerate Energy, Inc. safely completed its 3,000th LNG ship-to-ship (STS) operation since the start of STS operations in 2007.

The milestone was achieved onboard Excelerate’s floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Excellence. The vessel received a cargo delivery from Maran Gas Maritime Inc.‘s liquified natural gas (LNG) carrier, the Maran Gas Asclepius, at the Moheshkhali Floating LNG (MLNG) terminal in Bangladesh, Excelerate announced 6 Jan. 2025 in an official statement.

The FSRU Excellence has a LNG storage capacity of 138,000 m3 and a peak send-out capacity of 690 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscf/d), according to Excelerate. Excelerate’s FSRU fleet is comprised of 10 vessels.

“This milestone is a testament to our unwavering commitment to safety, reliability, and innovation in the LNG industry. It is not just a number. It symbolizes years of relentless effort, continuous improvement, and the highest standards of operational excellence,” Excelerate Executive Vice President and COO David Liner said in the statement.

“Since pioneering the commercial ship-to-ship transfer of LNG in 2007, we have continued to shape the industry while safely and reliably bringing energy to those who need it,” Liner said.

Excelerate — which offers a full range of flexible regasification services from FSRUs to infrastructure development to LNG supply — said the MLNG terminal has played a vital role in ensuring the energy security of Bangladesh since 2018. MLNG has a capacity of up to 600 MMscf/d, and provides a reliable source of energy supporting industrial development and job creation in a more sustainable manner.
