Texas LNG Selects Kiewit as EPC Contractor for 4 MTPA Brownsville Facility

(Pietro D. Pitts, Energy Analytics Institute, 4.Nov.2024) — Texas LNG Brownsville LLC subsidiary of Glenfarne Energy Transition, LLC selected Kiewit, through its subsidiaries Kiewit Engineering Group Inc. and Kiewit Energy Group Inc., to lead the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the proposed Texas LNG 4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Brownsville, Texas.

The EPC would be executed under a lump-sum turnkey (LSTK) structure, Texas LNG said 4 Nov. 2024 in an official statement.

Texas LNG plans to also work with Kiewit to complete the pre-final investment decision (FID) engineering required for the project to proceed to a FID.

Glenfarne, a developer, owner, and operator of energy transition infrastructure, is the majority owner and managing member of Texas LNG. Glenfarne’s LNG portfolio also includes the 8.8 mtpa Magnolia LNG export facility under development in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Texas LNG

The Texas LNG facility will be located on a 625-acre site with access to the prolific low-cost Permian basin and Eagle Ford shale gas reserves.

The facility is being developed on the Port of Brownsville’s north shore. This location offers access to a deep-water ship channel only one hour’s voyage from the Gulf of Mexico, according to statements on Texas LNG’s website. The port is also situated close to the Panama Canal, providing easy access to global shipping lanes that will help Texas LNG service customers efficiently and reliably.

Texas LNG’s liquefaction process will eliminate most CO2 emissions by using electric motor compression driven by renewable power. The facility’s emission levels are expected to be less than half of the typical US LNG export project and the gold standard of green LNG design, according to Texas LNG.
