Venezuela’s Maduro proposes new economy at BRICS Plus Summit

PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (Piero Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 23.Oct.2024, Words: 165) — During the plenary session of the XVI BRICS Plus Summit held in the Russian city of Kazan, Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro Moros emphasized the need for a new economic agenda with what he called practical solutions to the issues of international trade and monetary exchange.

“It is not just about making small reforms to the monetary and financial system, which sometimes seems not to endure reforms,” PDVSA said 23 Oct. 2024 in an official statement, citing Maduro. “Former Western colonial countries would like to reimpose their hegemony through currency mechanisms and the imposition of economic packages and conditions.”
