YPF CEO Marín Downplays Petronas Drama

BELIZE CITY, BELIZE (Aaron Simonsky, Energy Analytics Institute, 24.Sep.2024) — YPF President and CEO Horacio Marín downplayed the impact of Petronas deciding not to move forward as a partner in a massive LNG facility (onshore and offshore) planned on Argentina’s Atlantic Coast.

“There is no need to dramatize” the news if the Malaysian state oil company, Petronas, finally leaves the mega investment project to develop LNG in Argentina, Argentine news agency Clarín reported 24 Sep. 2024 on its website.

Argentina looks to develop up to 30 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefaction capacity, Marín said 12 Sep. 2024 during the ‘Shale en Argentina’ event in Houston.

At that level, the project could demand an investment of around $30bn.

For at least a month, YPF has also been looking for international partners to provide know-how and eventually financing, the Clarín said.
