Trinidad’s Energy Minister Young Participates In WPC Round Table

(MEEI, 8.Dec.2021) — On Wednesday 8 December 2021, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister the Honourable Stuart Young MP participated in a Ministerial Round Table focused on Regional Development and Opportunities in Latin America as part of the 23rd World Petroleum Conference held in Houston, Texas from 5-9 December 2021. The panellist on the round table included Dr Jose Armando Zamora, President of the National Hydrocarbons Agency of Colombia and His Excellency Eduardo Gonzales Toro, Minister of Energy and Mines Peru, moderated by Sebastian Borgarello, Vice President Consulting, IHS Markit.

The World Petroleum Conference gathers together industry and government leaders from across the world to address all aspects of the industry from technological advances in upstream, midstream, and downstream operations to the role of natural gas and renewables, management of the industry and its social, economic, and environmental impact.

Minister Young used the opportunity to introduce Trinidad and Tobago to the conference, highlighting the country’s experience in the energy sector and its unique position in the region as both an oil and gas producer, with a mature natural gas industry.

Young noted that “Trinidad and Tobago is well poised as the world looks towards decarbonisation and the reduction of dangerous greenhouse gas emissions. He also noted that methanol and ammonia are two major commodities that will play a role in the global energy transition.

His address also highlighted the recent launch of the 2021 Deep Water Competitive Bid Round for Fiscal 2022 which was being marketed at the conference by a team from the Ministry. Minister Young also commented on the government’s position on the energy transition noting that consultation with the energy stakeholders has been ongoing to determine the terms necessary to continue to attract the capital investment by major investors to ensure the maximum benefit for the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago all while balancing the goal of the transition to clean energy.
