(Energy Analytics Institute, 17.Jan.2021) — Chile signed a historic first memorandum of understanding (MOU) together with Rotterdam port authorities for the export-import of green hydrogen.
“This is excellent news for Chile and the world,” Chile’s Energy and Mining Minister Juan Carlos Jobet said 17 March 2021 in an official statement from the ministry.
“The Port of Rotterdam will be the gateway for hydrogen produced in our country to European markets,” Jobet said. “We will be contributing to decarbonize nations with our same ambition to be carbon neutral, but that don’t have the strategic and natural conditions of Chile to achieve it.”
Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe, handling approximately 13% of the total energy demand of that continent, the ministry said in the statement.
