CARACAS, VENEZUELA (By Piero Stewart, Editores Latin Petroleum, 19.Sep.2026, Words: 300) — Venezuela register peak electricity demand of 16,030 megawatts (MW), the highest figure in the last 9 years.
This increase in consumption is due to the high temperatures caused by the Super El Niño phenomenon, which brings extreme heat, fires, and heavy rains, Venezuela’s Ministry of People’s Power for Electrical Energy (MPPEE) reported on 19 Sep. 2026 in an official statement.
“The MPPEE seeks to maintain the stability of the National Electrical System and asks the population to use energy efficiently, recommending turning off appliances and lights that are not in use to help reduce electricity consumption,” the ministry said in the statement.
“Use high-consumption appliances responsibly, especially during the hottest hours of the day. With awareness, we ensure the continuity of this vital service. Take care of the energy, power life,” MPPEE said.
