BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA (By Ana Sanches, Energy Analytics Institute, 28.Jul.2026, Words: 156) — Climate models from Columbia University (IRI) and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) (CFSv2) estimate a very strong El Niño phenomenon could develop between late 2026 and early 2027, with sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies that could reach up to 4°C in Venezuela.
The news site Efecto Cocuyo cites Venezuelan researcher Jorge Paolini-Ruiz, a specialist in bioclimatology, who warned about this scenario and compared the projections with the effects observed during the strong El Niño of 2015-2016 in the Loefling Tropical Dry Forest (Ciudad Guayana), where marked water stress in the vegetation was evident.
