Investments to reduce emissions and create jobs in Canada

CALGARY, CANADA (By the Government of Alberta, 5.Aug.2025, Words: 390) — The Government of Alberta announced a $12.7mn investment to support three transformative projects through the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) fund and Emissions Reduction Alberta’s Continuous Intake Program.

These investments will strengthen Alberta’s electricity system, reduce emissions, support local supply chains for battery metals, and create jobs across the province.

Alberta is putting its underground resources to work through these new clean technology projects. Salt caverns will be used to store energy, carbon dioxide will be safely contained underground, and battery-grade lithium will be extracted from deep brine.

“Alberta is using our rich underground resources to deliver cleaner, more reliable electricity and good paying jobs. Fewer outages, lower power bills, and our own battery-metal supply mean healthier communities and a stronger economy. These investments cement Alberta’s place as Canada’s economic engine and the world’s clean technology leader.” — Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas
