MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (Fidencio Casillas, Energy Analytics Institute, 22.Apr.2025) — The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) continues to urge the international community to provide ambitious updates that reflect the global commitment to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030.
An IRENA report on the prospects of the global energy transition for 2024 (World Energy Transitions Outlook 2024) forecasts current country commitments around the world could reduce global energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 3% by 2030 and by 51% by 2050, which would also mean limiting the temperature increase below 1.5°C.
