OPEC Forecasts Slight Rise in Permian Oil Production in 2025

ATLANTA, GEORGIA (Chad Archey, Energy Analytics Institute, 12.Feb.2025) — The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is forecasting US tight crude production in the Permian Basin to grow by 0.2 million barrels per day (MMb/d) in 2025 compared to an average 5.5 MMb/d in 2024. In 2026, production in the Permian is expected to average 5.7 MMb/d in 2026.

In North Dakota, Bakken shale production is expected to average around 1.2 MMb/d in 2025, and then decline by about 20,000 b/d in 2026, a sign of a mature basin, OPEC said 12 Feb. 2025 in its Monthly Oil Market Report (MOMR). This compares to the pre-pandemic average of 1.4 MMb/d, according to OPEC data.

In the Eagle Ford Basin in Texas, production growth in 2025 is expected to be around 15,000 b/d above average production of 1 MMb/d in 2024, while steady production is forecast for 2026.
