(Energy Analytics Institute, 11.May.2021) — Colombia’s production of crude oil and natural gas moved downwards in March 2021 compared to the prior month, according to details provided by the country’s Mines and Energy Ministry.

Gas Production

Colombia’s commercialized gas production was 1.091 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) in March 2021, down 5% compared to 1.149 MMcf/d in February 2021, but up 3.2% compared to 1.057 MMcf/d in March 2020, the ministry announced 11 May 2021 in an official statement.

In March, there was a drop in gas sold in the Cupiagua Sur, Cupiagua (Aguazul, Casanare), Pauto Sur (Yopal, Casanare), Clarinete (Sahagún, Córdoba), Nelson (Pueblo Nuevo, Córdoba) and Chuchupa (Manaure, Guajira) fields), due to the decrease in gas demand during the month.

Oil Production

Colombia’s oil production was 744,715 barrels per day (b/d) in March 2021, down 0.14% compared to 745,769 b/d in February 2021, and down 13.1% compared to 857,112 b/d in March 2020.

The decrease in oil production during March occurred mainly in the Quifa (Puerto Gaitán, Meta), Tigana (Tauramena, Casanare) and Chichimene (Acacías, Meta) fields, due to the high water cut, maintenance of production and electrical failures.

Wells And Seismic

Finally, during March 2021, the drilling of 4 exploratory wells and 26 development wells began in Colombia, for a total of 7 exploratory wells and 85 development wells so far this year. In addition, 192.3 kilometers of equivalent 2D seismic were acquired during this month, for a total of 266 kilometers in the year, the ministry said.
