(Energy Analytics Institute, 25.Jun.2020) — Colombia’s production of natural gas was 938.7 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) in May 2020, up 13.5% sequentially from 827 MMcf/d in April 2020, but down 8.3% from 1,024 MMcf/d in May 2019, according to details published by Colombia’s Mines and Energy Ministry.

Gas fields that registered production increases in May due to a higher demand due to the economic reactivation of some sectors included Clarinete (La Unión, Sucre), Chuchupa (Manaure, La Guajira), Pandereta (Caimito, Sucre) and Mamey (Ovejas, Sucre).

During the first five months of 2020, average gas production fell 2.33% to 1,016 MMcf/d compared to 1,040 MMcf/d in the first five months of 2019, according to the ministry’s data.

Oil Production

Colombia’s production of crude oil was 732,120 barrels a day in May 2020, down 8% from 796,164 b/d April 2020, mainly due to the temporary closure of wells due to international oil prices, the health emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic and some factors related to public order. Furthermore, oil production was down 18.15% compared to 894,519 b/d in May 2019.

Oil fields that registered production declines in May occurred mainly in the Akacías (Acacías, Meta), Quifa (Puerto Gaitán, Meta), Tigana and Túa (Tauramena, Casanare) fields.

During the first five months of 2020, average oil production was 829,531 b/d, down 7% compared to 892,414 b/d in the first five months of 2019.
