EP PetroEcuador Reveals Energy Efficiency Program

(Energy Analytics Institute, 10.Feb.2021) — Ecuador’s state oil company EP PetroEcuador announced details of its Energy Efficiency Program, which uses associated gas for electricity generation to optimize resources and minimize impacts on the environmental.

According to details about the program, PetroEcuador achieved the following savings between June 2009 and December 2020:

— Reduction in CO2 emissions by approximately 2 million tons, which is equivalent to taking around 405,000 vehicles off the road.

— Recuperation of approximately 32 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of associated gas for electricity generation.

— Non-use of 805 million gallons of diesel volume.

— Generation of net economic savings of $1.230bn.

Additionally, in 2020 the energy generated from associated gas was 168.29 GWh, equivalent to the residential demand covered by the National Electricity Corporation CNEL EP’s Sucumbíos Business Unit in the provinces of Orellana, Sucumbíos and Napo, PetroEcuador announced 10 February 2021 in an official statement.
