University Of Los Llanos Inaugurate Meta Campus

(Ecopetrol, 30.Dec.2020) — Ecopetrol and the University of Los Llanos “Unillanos” gave the service the second phase of works of this educational institution at the boquemonte headquarters, in the municipality of Granada (Meta), which will benefit more than 2,000 students from this important region of Colombia.

The investments were made through an agreement within the framework of Ecopetrol’s Sustainable Development Policy, which seeks to contribute to closing gaps in education and infrastructure, promote school retention and facilitate access to higher education in the country.

In this second phase, the contributions of the two institutions exceeded $5.797mn. Between the two phases of the project a total of $14.381mn was invested.

The second stage of this megaproject included urban planning works such as squares, parking lots, pedestrian access, green areas and electrical installations for lighting networks, building facades and perimeter fencing. Also the provision of technological equipment for virtual learning, furniture, air conditioners, security systems, among others.

The works were inaugurated today in a virtual event that was attended by the Deputy minister of Higher Education Luis Fernando Pérez Pérez; Governor of the Goal, Juan Guillermo Zuluaga; the mayor of Granada, Fredy Hernán Pérez; the president of Ecopetrol, Felipe Bayon Pardo; and the Rector of the University of the Llanos, Pablo Emilio Cruz Casallas.

” We are firmly committed to the Eastern Plains, and what better decision than to invest in education and in a world-class infrastructure, with state-of-the-art technology and modern spaces, so that our young people can develop their full potential, ” said Felipe Bayón, president of Ecopetrol.

This is what we wanted to capture at the Boquemonte Campus. Everything has been designed to favor the well-being of students, which in turn will fulfill the purpose that the University of Los Llanos, and our strategic partner Ecopetrol continue to contribute to regional growth since the formation of its human capital”, said Pablo Emilio Cruz Casallas, rector of the University of Los Llanos.

These new facilities will allow the university to strengthen its academic offerings and students of the towns that conform the Association of Towns of the Ariari (AMA) can access the four academic programs at the campus: Bachelor of Education in rural areas, and Rural Business Management, postgraduate in Project Management and English course.

In addition, Ecopetrol, through the tax works mechanism established by the National Government for the execution of investment projects in the areas most affected by the armed conflict, provides school furniture in 14 municipalities of Meta for the benefit of more than 42,000 students in 284 educational institutions.

Likewise, this project of support for higher education is complemented with the program ‘Graduates Ecopetrol’, whereby the company has funded higher education to 1,554 young people in the country’s 32 departments over the past 34 years, and the program Generation And, through which, in agreement with ICETEX, it supports 1.587 young people so that they can access quality higher education.
