(Energy Analytics Institute, 1.Sep.2020) — Stena Drilling inked a new contract with Tullow Suriname BV for the Stena Forth drillship to drill one well offshore Suriname in Block-47.

Block 47 forms part of the Guyana-Suriname Basin and is located approximately 260 kilometers north of the Suriname coast.

The Stena Forth will mobilize to Suriname in late December 2020 or early January 2021 with a planned campaign commencement in January or February 2021, Stena Drilling announced 1 September in a social media post on Facebook.

Activities along the Guyana-Suriname basin have been hot in recent years on the coattails of exploration success and finds by an Exxon-lead consortium including Hess and China’s CNOOC that has found more than 8 billion oil equivalent barrels in Guyana’s Stabroek Block.

Exploration drilling to date in Block 58 offshore Suriname, which lies adjacent to the Stabroek Block, has shown promise for Apache and Total in their first three wells.
