Brazil’s MME Names Energy Secretariat

(Energy Analytics Institute, Aaron Simonsky, 6.Apr.2020) — Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) named José Mauro Ferreira as the agency’s new Energy Secretariat, replacing Renata Isfer.

Details of the appointment were published in the 6 April 2020 edition of Brazil’s Official Gazette (DOU), the MME said in an official statement.

Ferreira will replace Renata Isfer, who has worked at the MME since 2016 and participated in the execution of the main projects of the ministry for the sector, such as the Surplus Transfer Auction, RenovaBio, Reate 2020, Abastece Brasil, Novo Mercado de Gás and others related to consumer protection, the guarantee of supply and promotion of competition.

Ferreira is a former director of the Energy Research Company (EPE) and holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Chemistry, a Master’s in Materials Engineering from the Military Engineering Institute (IME) and a PhD in Energy Planning from the Energy Planning Program (PPE) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).

He has over 25 years of professional experience, working in the oil, natural gas and biofuels sectors. He also worked, for several years in the undergraduate and graduate teaching area, with three published books and more than 30 scientific papers presented or published in journals or annals of national and international congresses.
