(Energy Analytics Institute, Jared Yamin, 18.Dec.2019) — Mexico’s state oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) announced plans to conduct an emergency exercise as part of its annual efforts related to emergency prevention and responses.

The emergency exercise — to be held Thursday 19 December 19, at 10 a.m. — will involve simulation of a natural gas leak with a corresponding explosion at the Separation Battery and Litoral Compression Station located within the processing area of the Dos Bocas Maritime Terminal in the municipal of Nuevo Torno Largo, the state oil giant announced in an official statement on 18 Dec.

The exercise will be carried out in coordination with municipal authorities, under strict security measures and in accordance with the protocols established by Pemex in order to prevent any risk to the nearby communities, workers, facilities or the environment, Pemex said.

Mexico City-based Pemex has notified the populations surrounding the area ahead of time so that they understand the simulation it is a drill and not an actual emergency.
