(Offshore, 17.Oct.2019) — BHP has had mixed results from the final two wells of its latest exploration campaign on its northern licenses offshore Trinidad and Tobago.
The Boom-1 well spud in late-August encountered hydrocarbons and evaluation continues. However, the subsequent Carnival-1 was a dry hole.
The Transocean drillship Deepwater Invictus will now return to the US Gulf of Mexico to complete regulatory abandonment work on the Shenzi appraisal and exploration boreholes.
Offshore Mexico, analysis continues of BHP’s Trion 3-DEL appraisal well, drilled in July, which proved oil in reservoirs up dip from all previous well intersections. No further appraisal drilling is planned.
Offshore southeast Australia, the company’s West Barracouta project in the Bass Strait is on track for first production in 2021.
Early last month, the Minerva gas field offshore Victoria reached the end of its life and production ceased at the Minerva gas plant.
BHP expects to complete closure of the sale of its 90% interest in gas plant to the Casino Henry joint venture shortly.
