Argentina, Chile Ink Emergency Energy Deal

(Energy Analytics Institute, Aaron Simonsky, 22.Aug.2019) — Argentina’s Energy Secretariat Gustavo Lopetegui held meetings with his Chilean counterpart Juan Carlos Jobet to sign an Emergency Energy Coordination Protocol for energy emergencies and discuss bilateral energy cooperation affecting both natural gas, crude oil and electrical interconnections.

The Emergency Energy Coordination Protocol establishes mechanisms for alerting and restoring gas shipments in the event of possible emergencies, Argentina’s Energy Secretariat announced Aug. 22 in an official statement. The protocol was one of many topics agreed upon at the 25 Apr. 2019 meeting of the Second Binational Energy Bureau held in Santiago, Chile.

The officials also discussed issues related to rehabilitation of the Trans-Andean oil pipeline, and supplying Argentine gas to southern Chile.

Ambassadors Octavio Bordón (Argentina) and Sergio Urrejola (Chile) also participated in the meeting.
