(LoopTT, 27.May.2019) — Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Monday slammed the Prime Minister’s 10-day energy trip, accusing him of meddling in the energy affairs of Trinidad and Tobago.

In a statement, she said the upcoming scheduled meetings with international energy companies are aimed at regaining favour as a result of government’s ‘incompetence.’

“Keith Rowley’s upcoming scheduled meetings with global energy companies are nothing more than attempts for him to save face after being humiliated and outmaneuvered by them in negotiations.

He foolishly attempted to negotiate agreements without the advice of our trained technocrats and now our energy security is at risk due to his incompetence.”

The Opposition Leader added that the Prime Minister must stop ‘meddling’ in the energy affairs of the country or T&T will pay a hefty price.

“Keith Rowley and Stuart Young must stop humiliating themselves in the faces of our energy partners or else the country will pay a hefty price for their incompetence.

We are of the view that there are large Gas fields off the east coast of Tobago and thus incentivised exploration and we expect in the near future these gas fields east of Tobago containing trillions of cubic feet of gas will be available for production.

We caution the Prime Minister that his incompetent meddling in energy affairs will put these gas finds at risk to the detriment of us all.”
