Pemex Says Illegal Pipeline Connections Up 45% YOY

(Energy Analytics Institute, Jared Yamin, 22.Dec.2018) — Clandestine pipeline connections between January and October of 2018 rose 45% to 12,581 compared to 8,664 in the same period last year, and rose 21% compared to 10,363 registered in all of 2017, with two months of data still to be collected.

According to data from Pemex, in October of 2018, approximately 1,431 such illegal connection were reported. The three cities with the most reported illegal connections included: Hidalgo with 235, Guanajuato (195); and Puebla (179), reported online media El Heraldo de Mexico.

The clandestine connections generate annual losses of 30 billion pesos, Pemex General Director Carlos Treviño announced recently.
