EAI brief: US national average gasoline price reaches $3.79/gallon, up 30% M-O-M

BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA (By Steve Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 17.Mar.2026, Words: 115) — The national average gasoline price (regular) in the US reached $3.79/gallon as of 17 Mar. 2026, up 30% from $2.92/gallon just a month ago, according to AAA.

Many parts of the US are on spring break holidays, which has helped to push up prices. Gasoline demand also increases this time of year as the weather warms up and more drivers hit the road.

However, the current rise is primarily driven by higher oil prices, which have recently breached the $100/bbl mark as the US-Iran war wages on.
