CARACAS, VENEZUELA (By Piero Stewart, Editores Latin Petroleum, 22.Oct.2026, Words: 140) — Venezuela needs to invest between $2.5bn-$3bn annually to incorporate new thermoelectric generation capacity and respond to the growth in electricity demand resulting from the economic expansion the OPEC country is experiencing, El Carabobeño reported on 22 Oct. 2026.
This, according to estimates made by Carabobo state governor Rafael Lacava during the inauguration of the “Sabe a Venezuela 2026” fair, held at Wynwood Park in Naguanagua.
Lacava maintained Venezuela should incorporate between 1,200 and 1,500 megawatts (MW) of thermoelectric generation each year to compensate for the increase in electricity consumption.
Lavaca calculated the cost of incorporating each new megawatt into the national interconnected grid at approximately $2mn.
