OPEC’s Barkindo Visits Jose Antonio Anzoátegui Petrochemical Complex

(Energy Analytics Institute, 11.May.2022) —The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo and an OPEC delegation visited the ‘Jose Antonio Anzoátegui Petrochemical Complex’ in Anzoátegui State during their working visit to Venezuela.

The upgrading complex is composed of four main upgraders and a petrochemical plant. “There have been extensive improvements to the complex over the last two years,” OPEC announced 11 May 2022 over Twitter, adding that this “constitutes a monumental achievement given the most extreme challenging conditions.”

The secretary general and delegation was received by PDVSA President Asdrúbal Chávez and also met with members of the board of directors while also meeting with some workers.

Barkindo commended the leadership of Venezuela, PDVSA’s management and “the heroism of PDVSA workers who have done an outstanding job in supporting the recovery of the oil industry in the country,” OPEC said in a series of tweets over Twitter.

Chávez paid tribute to the six eventful years of impactful leadership of OPEC that the secretary general has provided and his strong support for the industry in Venezuela. He expressed gratitude for the role OPEC has played in market stabilization efforts under the ‘Declaration of Cooperation,’ OPEC said.
