— After a work of planning, development and presentation of projects, Ecuador’s Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources (MENRNR), through the Subsecretariat of Control and Nuclear Applications (SCAN), together w/ different national public entities, announced that the International Organization of Atomic Energy (IAEA) has approved new projects for Ecuador worth $2.8mn for the 2022-23 cycle. The amount corresponds to non-reimbursable funds, since the country will only assume 5% of the indicated figure, MENRNR said 23 Dec. 2021 in an official stmt.

— In order to provide a comprehensive solution to the emergency that arose in Zaruma (El Oro) due to the development of a sinkhole caused by the illegal extraction of minerals, Ecuador’s Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources (MENRNR) is working on different actions to stabilize the area. MENRNR’s head Juan Carlos Bermeo Calderón continues to coordinate activities w/ public and private cos. support for various inputs needed to carry out works related to containment systems and stabilization of slopes, the ministry revealed 23 Dec. 2021 in an official stmt.

Trinidad and Tobago

— While the Covid-19 pandemic was a spanner in the works for most industries and sectors, engineering and construction projects were particularly impacted due to legislated or logistical restrictions, the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) revealed on 23 Dec. 2021 in an official stmt, adding that it was one of the many cos. facing project setbacks due to the pandemic. NGC said that due to the temporary suspension of some projects that it embarked on a new design-build project in Ghana, the first int’l venture of its kind for the state co.
