(Energy Analytics Institute, 10.Mar.2021) — The Quito Electric Company (EEQ) inaugurated substation (S/E) No. 46 Inga Bajo, located in the Itulcachi sector, in the rural parish of Pifo. The investment in the substation was $3.4mn.

The project will contribute to energy development in Pifo, guarantee new connections, and supply industrial demand, Ecuador’s Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources (MERNNR) announced 10 March 2021 in an official statement.

The innovative electrical infrastructure has high-tech devices for control and protection. It has a double-circuit supply of 138 kilovolts (kV), with sub-transmission lines arriving from the Inga substations of Transelectric and Tababela from EEQ.

In addition, the substation has a 40 megavolt (MVA) power transformer with a voltage transformation ratio of 138/23 kV and a set of 23 kV cells that can supply electricity to the Inga substation.

With the operation of the Inga Bajo Substation, the EEQ will improve electricity service and strengthen energy distribution, directly benefiting the parishes of Pifo and Pintag and various neighboring sectors, including the sector’s industrial park, improving quality life of approximately 27,000 users, the MERNNR said.
