(Energy Analytics Institute, Piero Stewart, 7.Apr.2020) — EP PetroEcuador announced suspension of operations at the Sistema de Oleducto Transecuatoriano (SOTE) due to the sinking of a portion of the pipeline in a sector of San Rafael, located between the provinces of Napo and Sucumbíos.

The TransEcuadorian Pipeline System, as it is known in English, has capacity to transport 360,000 barrels per day of oil from Ecuador’s Amazon region to the province of Esmeraldas.

The incident caused a reduction in pressure, which affected the pipeline’s operations, EP PetroEcuador announced 7 April 2020 in an official statement.

Personnel from the state oil company have descended on the area to investigate the exact causes of the incident and to initiate works to repair the damages.
