The purpose of the two visits was to congratulate them on their recent appointments and express Total’s firm commitment to the growth of the oil and gas sector of the Nigerian economy.

The visits also served as opportunity to introduce Mr. Sangster who recently assumed duties in Nigeria to both the Minister and the GMD

They were informed of Total’s Operations and Projects Spectrum in Nigeria. These include:

— Operating and producing onshore, offshore and Deep water.

— Only International Oil Company still operating in the entire energy value chain in Nigeria (Upstream, LNG, and downstream).

— Downstream: >580 Service Stations across the whole country. We are in every part of Nigeria. In addition to marketing of petroleum products, our Bonjour shops located in most stations provide value-adding services like car wash and care-care products, free tire checks/gauging, etc

— Egina started production in December 2018 and is adding 200,000 barrels of oil per day to Nigeria’s production.

— Invested significantly in infrastructure to deliver up to 300mscf of natural gas to the domestic market. However, local demand has been very much below the invested capacity.

— Egina recorded 77% of Nigerian Content being the first Deepwater project to have both 100% of the management and project team in Nigeria

The point was stressed that in partnership with NNPC, Total partly developed the Egina FPSO in Nigeria and wants to build on this.

Nigeria is known to have great quality of rocks, and earlier this year in a visit to the VP and immediate past GMD, NNPC, TOTAL CEO, Patrick Pouyanne had indicated the Group’s readiness to explore for more oil and gas if granted exploration licenses by the Nigerian government

On his part, the Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr. Sylva called on Total and other stakeholders in the industry to partner with the Petroleum Ministry to ensure the speedy passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, (PIB).

He promised to work with Total to achieve Nigeria’s quest of growing its crude oil and gas reserves and also boosting production.

In his response, NNPC chief executive, Mele Kyari, stated that Total Nigeria was one of the corporation’s most valuable partners with visible outcomes, adding that the partnership would further grow national production and reserves going forward.

He said, “Total Nigeria in the last five years has very visible outcomes that we have seen and I assure you that we will work together to progress all efforts to grow production and national reserves.”

“I also want to put on record that your downstream company has been very supportive in the supply of gasoline into our country.”
