(Energy Analytics Institute, Ian Silverman, 7.Jun.2019) — Bolivia’s generation capacity is expected to rise this year by 1,000 megawatts (MW) to 3,300 MW, representing an increase of 43.4% compared to what the country currently produces, Bolivia’s Information Agency (ABI) reported, citing Bolivia’s President Evo Morales.
“We’re generating 2,300 megawatts in Bolivia and this year we will deliver 1,000 megawatts from thermo-electric and combined cycle plants and will reach 3,300 megawatts,” Morales said during the inauguration of the San José II hydroelectric plant in Cochabamba.
Bolivia’s internal demand is expected to reach 1,500 MW in 2019, which translates into a surplus of around 1,800 MW, Morales said.
