BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA (By Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2.Dec.2025, Words: 246) — In the name of the Colombian people and as an expression of the deepest democratic conviction, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declares that:
We received with great concern the recent statements by the President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, in which he suggests the possibility of taking military action against Colombia under the pretext of combating drug trafficking.
Colombia remains steadfast in its commitment to the fight against drug trafficking, addressing the problem in a comprehensive, balanced, multidisciplinary, and evidence-based manner, while respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, in accordance with the principle of shared responsibility. It emphasizes the need to address and resolve the tensions that arise when the international drug control system interacts with human rights, public health, the environment, gender issues, and the protection of vulnerable populations, such as Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and rural communities.
We reaffirm our commitment to peace, national sovereignty and respect for international law; and as part of the Latin American and Caribbean region, we reject any threat of external aggression that violates the dignity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Colombian people.
We make an urgent call for fraternity between Latin America and the Caribbean so that, as brotherly Latin American peoples, unity may prevail against any attempt at external intervention that seeks to undermine sovereignty.
Colombia is a people with deep roots who are building a future of prosperity and tranquility for the entire region.
