SALVADOR DE BAHIA, BRAZIL (By Pedro Silva, Energy Analytics Institute, 12.Sep.2025, Words: 178) — Petrobras concluded the acquisition of a 27.5% stake in block 4, located in São Tomé and Príncipe, Africa.
With this acquisition, Petrobras joins the consortium of the aforementioned block, which includes Shell, the operator of the asset (30%), as well as Galp (27.5%) and ANP-STP (15%).

Petrobras has been active in São Tomé and Príncipe since Feb. 2024, when it acquired a 45% stake in Blocks 10 and 13, and a 25% stake in block 11, the company said on 12 Sep. 2025 in an official statement.
“This transaction strengthens Petrobras’ exploratory activities on the African continent, with the purpose of portfolio diversification, and is aligned with the company’s long-term strategy, aiming to replenish oil and gas reserves through exploration of new frontiers and partnership operations,” according to Petrobras.
