EP PetroEcuador Halts FCC Unit At Las Emeraldas

(Energy Analytics Institute, Piero Stewart, 8.Apr.2020) — EP PetroEcuador announced an issue related to the National Interconnected System (SNI) on 7 April 2020 caused an unscheduled failure in the process units of the Las Esmeraldas refinery.

As a consequence of the emergency stoppage, damage occurred to the F-C1 compressor of the Fluid Catalytic Fractionation Unit (FCC), which forced the company to suspend activities for at least six days, during which time the damage to the equipment will be evaluated, the company announced 8 April 2020 in an official statement.

The FFC unit produces petroleum derivatives such as fuel consumed in the production processes of the Las Esmeraldas refinery, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), high octane naphtha used in the preparation of the different gasoline and cyclic oils used in the production of fuel oil.
