(Energy Analytics Institute, Jared Yamin, 7.Dec.2018) — Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador appointed Engineer Octavio Romero Oropeza as the new CEO of Pemex.
Romero assumed the position on December 1, 2018, and replaces outgoing CEO Carlos Treviño, announced Pemex in an official statement on its website.
On December 3, 2018, in compliance with all requirements established by law and the corporate bylaws of the company, and the handover of Pemex was completed at a ceremony performed at the company’s Executive Tower.
The top priorities at Pemex include strengthening its strategy and making its processes more efficient in order to increase its benefits for all Mexican citizens, announced Romero during the ceremony.
Romero confirmed the instructions of Obrador are to turn Pemex into a robust pillar that achieves the country’s goal of energy self-sufficiency as well as to become a source of greater resources and act as a vehicle for social justice.
