(Energy Analytics Institute, 23.Nov.2020) — Bolivia’s state oil company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) is turning its attention to the Andean country’s northern Amazonian region with the drilling of the Gomero X1 IE stratigraphic research well located in the Río Beni Area, which includes the departments of Pando, Beni and La Paz.

The objective is to investigate the potential of possible hydrocarbons to replace reserves over the short-to-medium term while also replacing production, YPFB announced 23 November 2020 in an official statement, citing exploration and exploitation manager Marco Antonio Carrillo.

“A 2.6-kilometer access road has already been opened, and work is currently being carried out to prepare the soil for graveling as well as work to improve seven wooden bridges,” said Carrillo. “Additional ongoing work includes construction of the drilling plank as well as other tasks that are estimated to be completed in approximately two months, depending on the rainy season.”

The next stage in the drilling process consists of mobilizing the drilling equipment, which is expected to take place in March of 2021, the executive said.
