PEMEX Reaffirms Commitment to Pay Suppliers

(PEMEX, 22.May.2024) — The CEO of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), Octavio Romero Oropeza, currently on a working tour of the southeastern part of the country, is holding a series of meetings with PEMEX’s main suppliers. Besides reaffirming the institution’s commitment to ensure outstanding payments, he is also discussing the operating performance of the service providers and reviewing various actions to obtain optimum results, as well as the development plans for this period.

Throughout the week, meetings will be held with representatives of more than 250 companies that provide exploration, engineering, drilling, production, environmental protection and safety, transportation and hydrocarbon marketing services, among others.

The first meeting took place on 21 May 2024 in the city of Villahermosa, Tabasco, and the second one was held today in Ciudad de Carmen, Campeche, both are key states for the national oil industry and the main seat of companies in the sector.

During these meetings, Romero Oropeza stated that in the first quarter of this year, an average of 39bn pesos (mmdp) was settled on a monthly basis. For the month of April, around 50bn pesos were paid, and this month, the institution will be able to make payments to suppliers for around 70bn pesos. Therefore, from May to August, outstanding payments will be normalized.

He also clarified that “PEMEX’s business is not in taking money from contractors, but rather meeting its goals, and these can only be achieved if commitments are fulfilled”. He also asked businessmen to support PEMEX in order to strengthen it and achieve the consolidation of the country’s energy sovereignty.

At today’s event, the CEO was accompanied by the Constitutional Governor of the State of Campeche, Layda Sansores San Román, whom he thanked for her government’s support of PEMEX’s activities in the region.
