(Renewables Now, 21.Dec.2018) — Argentine thermal and renewable energy group Genneia SA has switched on 100 MW of renewable power plants, the Ministry of Energy and Mines announced on Thursday.
Three facilities were connected to the national grid — the Ullum I and II solar parks, located in San Juan, and the Villalonga I wind farm, located in the south region of Bahia Blanca.
The photovoltaic (PV) parks have an individual capacity of 25 MW and are comprised of 79,000 solar panels each. Together, they can generate enough electricity to power more than 30,000 homes. Genneia invested some USD 32.5 million (EUR 28.4m) per PV plant.
Villalonga I, which required USD 80 million in investments, consists of 15 wind turbines supplied by Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS). With a 50-MW capacity, it can meet the demand of more than 50,000 homes. Villalonga is also the first wind park in the country to have all of its towers manufactured locally.
Currently, there are 92 renewable energy projects under construction that represent 3,667 MW, the ministry’s Undersecretariat for Renewable Energy noted.
