(ENAP, 8.Nov.2018) — The recognition highlights women who have joined productive activities traditionally carried out by men.

On November 7, the National Service for Women and Gender Equality (SERNAMEG) gave a recognition that highlights the women who have been incorporated into areas and productive activities traditionally carried out by men, to a total of 16 women who work in different institutions and companies in the Magallanes Region.

Two ENAP Magallanes workers who were chosen jointly by the company and the unions of Workers and Professionals were among the winners.

Francis Sánchez, Contract Inspector of the Operations Service, was awarded on behalf of the Workers Trade Union. Her main function is to ensure compliance with the agreement that ENAP has with the various companies that provide transportation services for liquid products in Posesión. In addition, Francis is the first woman to join the Emergency Brigade of that camp. “I am very excited and grateful for this recognition from the company and the Workers’ Union. Of course, I also thank my family, who is with me today, for their unconditional support, and all my work colleagues who make my day to day enjoyable,” said Sanchez.

Meanwhile, Karina Jeria, representative of the Professionals Trade Union, is the first woman to occupy the position of Head of Control Management at ENAP Magallanes; her main function is meeting the budget. Karina stands out for her leadership skills in a team of 5 women, thus strengthening the role they have in the company. “I am honored to have been chosen for this award. Frankly, I did not expect it, and it makes me very happy,” she said.

In turn, Rodrigo Bustamante, acting Manager of ENAP Magallanes, said “With this recognition to Karina and Francis we want to highlight the role of women who have been incorporated into the Oil and Gas industry, developing functions that historically have been executed by men. We are proud as a company of our progress and we hope to continue working on the incorporation of policies that promote the role of women in the industry.”

Finally, Patricia Mackenney, Regional Ministerial Secretary for Women and Gender Equality, highlighted the award and the value that women have in the exercise of various functions. “As Seremi we are very happy and we congratulate all the women who represent us today in such different areas. This award is aligned with the Woman Agenda of President Piñera, which seeks that women can have jobs and especially non-traditional jobs, as we have seen here,” she said.

At the ceremony, a recognition was also given to officials of the Armed Forces and of regional companies and institutions.
